Judge Not

Sometimes I wonder what the world is coming to. Other times I look at it and shake my head in disgust at all the ignorant people. We live in a sinful and wicked world. Every day something happens to make it harder to live in. Jesus told us such times would come. Now we seem to be living in those times.

As I watch people on social media and even those in everyday life, I have to wonder where they get some of their ideas. What bothers me the most are the Christians who should know better but seem to be just as blind to the truth. Now I’m not condemning anyone who disagrees or has a different idea about the world in which we live. I just want to point out what I see.

First of all, I hate the term “for the greater good.” I can’t find where it’s Biblical and it only seems to apply to those who are afraid of the virus or of giving it to someone. Those who refuse to follow the mandates are judged by those who believe that they are for the greater good of the people. The “greater good” seems to only consist of a specific group.

That brings me to my second point and the one that I find to be most hypocritical. In the Bible, we are told not to judge people. So why are we Christians being so judgmental right now? The other term I don’t like hearing is “love your neighbor”. I don’t believe that when Jesus told us to love our neighbors it meant guilting them into doing something that not only feels wrong but is a health hazard to them. I believe that we should respect them and allow them to form their thoughts and opinions of their own. You are free to do what you want, but forcing someone against their will because we need to “love our neighbor” is not loving our neighbor in the way Jesus intended. If you love your neighbor, you’re not going to judge them because they do not believe something different from you. As Christians, we should be striving to be different from the world. People look to us to be an example of Christ. Ask yourself if Jesus would judge them for being different. Since He is the one who told us not to judge, I know He wouldn’t. Don’t call someone out for not following the mandates or for even following them. That is their choice based on what they believe. If you are worried about them not wearing a mask and getting or giving the virus, then you wear the mask and let them live in peace. Most likely, they don’t care if they get the virus, and if you are wearing your mask and staying 6 ft. apart, you will be fine. And it should work both ways, if you know the other person is concerned, keep your distance and let them alone.  We are Christians called to be like Christ, and if we love our neighbors, we aren’t going to judge them, and that is what I see people doing, judging those who disagree.

Romans 2:1-11 “Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.

But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.

And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?

Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

Who will render to every man according to his deeds:

To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:

But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,

Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;

But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:

For there is no respect of persons with God.”
